New Zealand defeat SL Board President’s XI by 33 runs in T20 warm up

New Zealand defeated the Sri Lanka Board President’sXI by 33 runs in the T20 warm up match played at the FTZ Sports Complex (BOI), Katunayake yesterday. Batting first, New Zealand posted 168 for 6 wickets with cameos from Ross Taylor and Colin Monro. Taylor struck an unbeaten 53 off 34 balls studded with 4 sixes while Colin Munro carved a 27-ball 48 inclusive of 7 boundaries and a six before retiring to give other batsmen batting practice. Wanidu Hasaranga was the pick of the Board XI bowlers with 2 for 35.

The Sri Lanka Board XI replied with 135 for 9 with no real substantial contribution from any of the top order batsmen. Dasun Shanaka’s 25 off 11 balls with 2 sixes and 2 boundaries came too late while Jehan Jayasuriya made 26 off 25 with 2 boundaries and a six and Bhanuka Rajapaksa 22 off 23 with a boundary and six. It was Scott Kuggeleijn who broke the back of the home team cleaning up the top order four as the Board XI was reduced to 37 for 4 in 8.1 overs.
