Sri Lanka Emerging Team 101 for 4 in reply to Bangladesh Emerging Team’s 360

The Sri Lanka Emerging Team had made 101 for 4 wickets in reply to the Bangladesh Emerging Team’s first innings total of 360 all out at stumps on the second day of the first unofficial Test match at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna yesterday. They were trailing by 259 runs with six wickets intact. Bangladesh took their overnight score to sizable proportions on a top score of 133 by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto off 260 balls inclusive of 13 boundaries and a six. Off spinner Ramesh Mendis took 4 wickets for 73.

The Sri Lankans got off to a bad start losing the first wicket that of Pathum Nissanka for 16 with the total on 21 and the second wicket at 26 when Sangeeth Cooray exited for 6. The slide continued with the third wicket that of Minod Bhanuka falling with the total 52. He made 11. It became 4 for 59 when skipper Charith Asalanka was dismissed for 18 off 34 balls inclusive of 2 boundaries. From that point Kelum Bandara and P. Maduwantha rallied Sri Lanka without further loss putting on an useful 41-runs for the fifth wicket. Bandara was on 23 off 59 balls containing 4 boundaries while Maduwantha was on 21 off 73 balls containing 2 boundaries.

Doing the damage with the ball for the Bangladeshis was off spinner Nayeem Hasan who claimed all 4 wickets for 31 runs.
