Kumar Sangakkara to revisit NCC in Grand Felicitation

Sri Lanka Cricket

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain, Kumar Sangakkara will revisit the pastures from where he forged his international cricket career the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) which is planning a grand felicitation on September 5 for one of its greatest of products to have donned the Sri Lanka jersey to scaling the big stage all-time great summit. The club house down Maitland Place will come alive in all its fervor when the genial Sangakkara, who has endeared himself to the global family of cricket not only for his mighty record breaking batting feats, but his simplicity  and scholarly virtues, wends his way to old familiar precincts in a different fervor from his halcyon playing days that was the grooming ground to greatness.

The tumultuous felicitation lined up by his former club will be a fitting celebrative thank you of honouring a product from where he strode the international stage like a mighty colossus. The occasion will mark a chapter of a multitude of specialties that the great man, fondly referred to as Sanga in his native country, has reveled in. From overly cricketing feats to oratory skills that earned him the rare distinction of once delivering the Colin Cowdrey lecture at the hallowed precincts of the home of cricket, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to being years later inducted as its first non British President . In a glorious 15-year long career Kumar Sangakkara literally walked the walk and talked the talk to greatness. If becoming the highest Sri Lankan Test and ODI century and run getter is unique, the rare double century all-time elite bracket alongside the Don – Sir Donald Bradman to boot is indeed a lasting cricketing flame. Lofty out of this world stuff fitting felicitated in his native land will bring together the family of the Nondescripts Cricket Club, both past and present from management to players – Michael Tissera, Dr. H.I.K. Fernando, Ranjan Madugalle, Ranjith Fernando, and the Sri Lankan cricket family from yore including Anura Tennekoon and Bandula Warnapura wwith Sports Minister, Harin Fernando among the VIPs. A feature will be the unveiling of a plaque done by well known sculptor Jayantha de Silva.
