Navod all-round show in Sri Lanka’s 52-run win over UAE

Navod Paranavuithana starred in a superb all-round performance of 61 (9×4) and 4 wickets for 54 in the Sri Lanka Emerging Team’s 52-run win over the United Arab Emirates in a Group B Under-19 Asia Cup match played at the FTZ Sports Complex (BOI), Katunayake yesterday. Sri Lanka amassed 326 for 8 in 50 overs to which the UAE replied with 274 for 9 in 50 Overs. The top scorer for Sri Lanka was Ashan Wickramasinghe with a fine 52-ball 73 studded with 11 hits to Ropes while skipper Nipun Dananjaya made a stroke filled 69-ball 60 inclusive of 6 boundaries. Navod Paranavuithana was adjudged Player of the Match. The United Arab Emirates did make a brave run chase fronted by a superb unbeaten century of 100 off 102 balls containing 8 boundaries and a six, but eventually found the tall target beyond their reach. 

Meanwhile, Bangaldesh beat Nepal by 6 wickets in a Group B match at the P. Saravanamuththu International Cricket Stadium.Nepal made a formidable 261 for 8 in 50 overs, but Bangladesh reached the victory target with consummate ease for the loss of only 4 wickets closing on 262 off 49.2 overs. The architect was skipper Akbar Ali with an unbeaten 98 to take the Player of the Match award.
