Australia romp to 9-wicket win to secure series

Sri Lanka Cricket

Australia romped to a nine wicket win over Sri Lanka with 42 balls to spare in the second T20 played at the Brisbane Cricket Grounds, Woolloongabba on Thursday.

Batting first, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 117 in 19 overs as the top order once again found Australia’s bowling attack too much to cope with as in the first T20. None of the batsmen went past the 20 odd mark with the highest being 27 by Kusal Janith Perera off 19 balls inclusive of 2 fours and a six while Danushka Gunathilaka made 21 off 22 with 2 boundaries and a six.

Australia’s response was swift reaching 118 for 1 in 13 overs at a run rate of 9.07. The hosts shrugged off the early loss of skipper Aaron Finch off the third ball of the innings to Lasith Malinga who had him caught by Kusal Janith Perera for 1 as David Warner, the century hero of the first game, figured in an unbroken 117-run alliance for the second wicket  with Steve Smith. The opener reeled off 60 off 41 balls containing 9 boundaries and Smith 53 off 36 balls with 6 boundaries. It earned Warner his second consecutive Player of the Match award with Australia already clinching the series 2-nil in the 3-match series.
