Pakistan defeat Bangladesh by 77 runs to emerge champions

Pakistan emerged champions of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2019  defeating Bangladesh by 77 runs in the final played at the ShereBangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Saturday.

Put in to bat, Pakistan amassed 301 for 6 wickets in 50 overs with Rohail Nazir striking 113 off 111 balls inclusive of 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. He put on 117 runs for the third wicket with Imran Rafiq who made 62 off 88 balls containing 4 boundaries and 2 sixes as Pakistan took control of the match with the total reading 158 for 3 in 32.5 overs when Rafiq was dismissed. From that point Pakistan further consolidated with skipper Saud Shakeel making 42 off 40 with 2 sixes and a boundary as he and Nazir added 85 runs for the fourth wicket when the latter departed with the total on 243 for 4 by the second ball of the 45th over having played the lead role in positioning Pakistan for victory.

Hosts Bangladesh’s victory bid did not find the much needed punch upfront losing the first and prize wicket of Soumya Sarkar for 15 with the total 23 and the second at 41 that of Moammad Naim for 16 and the third on 92 in 15.3 overs that of Yasir Ali for 22. When it further precipitated to 119 for 4 by the 21st over that of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 46 the writing was on the wall for Bangladesh which wilted against the lively pace of strike bowler Mohammud Hasnain who claimed 3 for 32, Saif Badar 2 for 27, and Khushdil Shah 2 for 39 as the hosts were dismissed for 224 off 43.3 overs. The Player of the Match was Rahail Nazir and Player of the Series Soumya Sarkar.
