England beat Sri Lanka by 44 runs ahead of tomorrow’s final

England beat Sri Lanka by 44 runs yesterday in the ninth match of the West Indies Tri Nation Series at Coolidge ahead of the final between the same teams tomorrow Saturday December 21 at the same venue. England collected 8 points from 4 wins and Sri Lanka 6 points from 3 wins.

England, batting first thumped 292 for 4 wickets in 50 overs with Jim Cox striking a 127-ball 105 inclusive of 7 boundaries and 3 sixes. Then J.D.M. Evison plundered a scorching 18-ball Unbeaten 50 with 6 sixes and 2 boundaries to put England in control.

Sri Lanka did put up a brave fight posting 248 for 9in 50 overs and despite a superb 103-run alliance between openers Navod Paranavithana who made a 75-ball 73 containing 9 boundaries and a six and Kamil Mishara a 49-ball 40 with 4 boundaries and a six fell short of the required run rate.

No.4 batsman T. Rasantha made 52 off 46 with 6 boundaries and a six and No.7 batsman Sonal Dinusha a 64-ball unbeaten 51 with 3 sixes and 2 boundaries. Six of the Lankan batsmen failed to reach double figures.
