ICC UNDER-19 CRICKET WORLD CUP
Sri Lanka pulled off a 9-wicket win over Japan in their Group A final first round match of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at the North-West University Ground, Potchefstroom in South Africa on Saturday.
Sri Lanka though are out of contention for the big spoils having been beaten in their previous two matches by India and New Zealand. Now competing for Plate Championship honours, Sri Lanka simply steamrolled minnows Japan who were shot out for 43 runs in just 18.3 overs in a 22 overs maximum match having been put in to bat. It was significant that none of the Japanese batsmen reached double figures. The wicket takers for Sri Lanka were Navod Paranavithana 2 for 2, Ashen Daniel 2 for 11, Dilshan Madushanka 2 for 12 and Sadeera Thilakaratne 2 for 13.
