Sri Lanka dismissed for 293 with Raza claiming 7/43

Sri Lanka was put on the back foot having been bowled out for 293 conceding a 113-run lead to Zimbabwe having added 171 to their overnight score of 122 for 2 wickets at the close of play on an eventful third day of the second test match at the Harare Sports Club grounds on Tuesday. Zimbabwe was on 62 for 1 wicket that of Craig Ervine caught by Dickwella off Vishwa Fernando for 13 as the hosts led by 175 runs and in with a chance of putting the Sri Lankans under pressure in pressing for a win to square the 2-match series.

Zimbabwe’s wrecker was paceman Sikandar Raza who claimed 7 for 43. Only first test hero Angelo Mathews with a top score of 64 off 158 balls inclusive of 3 boundaries and 2 sixes and Dhananjaya de Silva with 42 off 64 containing 5 boundaries and a six were among the runs while No.10 Vishwa Fernando made 38 off 81 balls with 5 boundaries. Sri Lanka’s slide began with Kusal Mendis perishing for 22 having added just 3 runs to his overnight score when he was caught by Mumba with the total on 134 while next man in Dinesh Chandimal lasted 9 balls caught and bowled by Raza making it 142 for 4.

The innings was revived by the fifth wicket alliance of 84 runs between Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva when the latter was bowled by Raza. Two runs later, Niroshan Dickwella was trapped leg before wicket by Raza for 1 having lasted six balls. The precipitation continued with Sri Lanka losing the seventh wicket for 242 that of Suranga Lakmal for 5 caught by Mutombodzi off Raza. Mathews was eighth out to a delivery by Mumba who induced him to lob a catch to Chakabva. Lasith Embuldenia and Vishwa Fernando added 24 for the ninth wicket before Raza ended the partnership having the former caught by Mudzinganyama for 5 before the tail wagged for a further 25 runs when Fernando was last man out offering a catch to Chakabva off Nyauchi.
