England top 300 in both innings of warm-up match

Priyanjan’s 77 noteworthy performance for SLC XI

The three-day warm up match between the Sri Lanka Cricket XI and England ended in a draw at the FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake on Monday. Batting first on winning the toss England were all out for 316 with noteworthy contributions from skipper Joe Root scoring 78 off 93 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries and Jos Butler 79 off 159 balls containing 5 boundaries and a six. Lahiru Samarakoon took 3 for 63 off 11.3 overs, Nisala Tharaka Gamage  2 for 41 off 11 overs and Kavishka Anjula 2 for 43 off 11 for the SLC XI.

The Sri Lanka Cricket XI was dismissed for 245  with skipper Ashan Priyanjan’s 77 off 126 balls with 11 boundaries the only local batsman to notch a significant score. England’s leg break bowler Matthew Parkinson had fine figures of 4 for 68 with off spinner Dominic Bess taking 3 for 54.

In their second innings, England was on 320 for 7 using up the final day for batting practice with opening batsman Zak Crawley striking 91 off 99 hitting 17 fours and Oliver Pope 77 off 115 balls with 6 boundaries while star all-rounder Ben Stokes made a forceful 43-ball 42 hitting 8 boundaries. Anjula once again took 2 wickets conceding 45 runs and Duvindu Tillekeratne 2 for 62.
