It was an over the moon buoying for CCC skipper Kusal Mendis who enjoyed his best top domestic season with the bat in a rich harvest of runs in leading from the front in his side pocketing for the second successive year the Super Eight title of the 2020 Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tier ‘A’ Championship. As the 25-year old star batsman aired it in his post championship, “It was yet another fine season for CCC having done it for two years in a row. What is more we have a great record of having won the title for a record seven years.”

That the former Moratu Vidyalaya product had much to do in this year’s success scoring a double century and two centuries was indeed a plus mark in raising his stock in proving his worth wearing the captaincy mantle. Overly Mendis’ masterly knocks of 200 not out against the NCC in a total of 480 for 6 in overhauling NCC’s 367 in securing first innings points, his 139 in launching his run crescendo in whipping Ragama CC by an innings at the start of the tournament and 157 versus Chilaw Marians enabled CCC put the icing on the cake.

Mendis was quick to heap praise on his team mates saying the annexing of the title was due to the team effort while also praising batsman Lasith Abeyratne for his role in CCC going past NCC. “Lasith’s contribution was as immense in that unbroken 171-run partnership as we reached 307 for 3. Lasith’s contribution was 104 off 166 balls in a tournament that saw him too deliver with 3 centuries in all, ”Mendis rounded off.

Mendis aggregated 527 runs in four 6 innings averaging 105.4.
