SRI LANKA CRICKET AND JAT HOLDINGS STRIKE IT RICH
JAT Holdings (PVT) Ltd., the leader in wood coatings in Sri Lanka, has struck it rich backing Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as the playmaker in driving the country’s cricket as SLCs ‘Official Overseas Team Sponsor’ for 2021 and the Bangladesh tour of 2022. ITW Consulting, the Custodian of the ‘Official Overseas Team Sponsor of Sri Lanka Cricket’ for 2020 to 2023 has facilitated JAT’s partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket.
The occasion was greeted as a landmark event yesterday when JAT Holdings hosted Sri Lanka Cricket at its headquarters at Thalawathugoda with its Managing Director, Aelian Gunewardene emphasising that ‘our (JATs) biggest brand was Sri Lanka Cricket and that at a time the team was going through a lean period it was not for people to downsize the players, but the duty of everybody including the media to play a role to uplift the country’s cricket.’ Still significantly, JAT Holdings was the only local company to have embarked on such a sponsorship despite the current economic impasse that has frozen other companies from doing so.
“If anybody asked me why JAT Holdings is backing Sri Lanka Cricket as its overseas sponsor I would say because it is the biggest mileage for us. In a country like India to say that we are backing Sri Lanka cricket it is the biggest thing for Indians for cricket is king size for them. It is a huge mileage for us.,” spelled out the JAT top executive who extended a warm welcome to SLCs Hony Secretary, Mohan de Silva and Chief Executive Officer, Ashley de Silva.
Aelian Gunewardene, who has the proud record of having put JAT Holdings right at the top as the market leader in wood coatings in Sri Lanka that has basked in the unique status as one of the Top Strongest Conglomerate Brands in the country with himself hitting a personal landmark in the field, said, “JAT Holdings considered it its duty to back cricket in Sri Lanka when it was down. We did so previously when the team was down and they went on to deliver, and this is the second time we are doing so and I’m sure the players will rise to the occasion. I hope this will be the second revival.”
While also stressing that JAT Holdings was always there to support sports having sponsored several other sports including rugby and golf, its Managing Director said, “We are extremely honoured as a privately owned Sri Lankan company, to be the ‘Official Overseas Team Sponsor of Sri Lanka Cricket, and this has given all of us at JAT a feeling of great pride and we wish the team every success in their upcoming series. JAT Holdings constantly seeks for channels to give back to our community, and sports have always been an area of focus. This was even more evident when JAT became the only Sri Lankan company to sponsor the Kandy Tuskers cricket team at the LPL 2020.”
Sri Lanka Cricket Honorary Secretary, Mohan de Silva said that on behalf of the SLC President and Executive Committee it was a great pleasure for himself to officially associate himself with such a great company as JAT Holdings. “I would like to congratulate you Aelian on that great achievement of becoming the top Conglomerate. On the game of cricket, I know you are passionate about it and this is what is needed from all Sri Lankans. During this bad period it is the duty of all stakeholders to get-together and support Sri Lanka Cricket instead of pulling the wheel. We are indeed proud and thank JAT Holdings for coming forward as the official overseas sponsor the Sri Lanka team for the tours of South Africa, the home tour of England and now the West Indies tour and the tour of Bangladesh in 2022. We are indeed happy that JAT Holdings has joined hands with Sri lanka Cricket when the world is trying to rejuvenate cricket. Naturally our cricketers are proud to carry this home grown brand. Going on our experiences before we are confident our relationship will continue to grow.”
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO, Ashley de Silva expressed his pleasure and confidence that ‘JAT Holdings, a local and privately owned brand, has partnered SLC as the ‘Official Overseas Team Sponsor of Sri Lanka Cricket’ to strengthen Sri Lanka Cricket during Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa, home series against England, the ongoing tour of the West Indies and the upcoming Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka. Cricket is all about partnerships and I’m sure this association will grow and develop, and that JAT will take this opportunity to harness their brand to become a global giant.’
The General Manager, JAT Holdings, Dilshan Rodrigo, while recording his heartfelt appreciation of the top SLC officials who had graced the milestone event, said that it was a privilege and honour for JAT to back cricket in the country by throwing its weight as the Official Overseas Team Sponsor of the Sri Lanka cricket team.

This has been an exciting association for us not least because we have a longstanding relationship with the sport of cricket here and are upbeat about the possibilities Sri Lanka cricket holds.
