SLC T20 TOURNAMENT
Moors SC toppled the more fancied Chilaw Marians CC by 7 wickets in a Group C match of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) T20 Tournament continued at the Colts CC grounds on Tuesday.
Put into bat, Chilaw Marians were shot out for 96 with Ranitha Liyanarachchi returning the fine figures of 4 for 27 and pace bowlers Dilesh Gunaratne 3 for 12 and Adeesha Thilanchana 3 for 12 and 2 for 14 respectively. Moors made light of the target reaching 97 for 3 off 14.2 overs spearheaded by skipper Mahela Udawatte, the former Sri Lanka cricketer who cracked a 45-ball unbeaten 68 highlighted by 5 sixes and 3 boundaries.
BRC defeated Kandy Customs CC by 39 runs in a Group A match at the SSC grounds. BRC batting first made 169 for 7 off 20 overs and restricted Kandy Customs CC to 130 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs. BRC’s win was set up by No.3 batsman Shanuka Dulaj who top scored with 55 off 39 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries while No.7 Anuk Fernando added the fusion hammering 46 off 22 balls studded with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. The wicket takers for BRC were Sachintha Peiris 3 for 28, Chameera Dissanayake 2 for16, and Lahiru Samarakoon 2 for 33. Sehan Weerasinghe top scoring for Kandy Customs CC with 45 off 43 balls with 2 boundaries and a six while Vishva Wijeratne scored a 32-ball 39 with 4 boundaries.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield beat Ace Capital CC by 39 runs in a Group B match played at the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium. Put into bat, Bloomfield made 127 for 6 with opening batsman Dilhan Cooray the only productive batsman accounting for a good part of the total with 73 off 58 balls containing 8 boundaries in what was a creditable performance by minnows the little known Ace Capital CC bowlers with Pasindu Madawa taking 3 wickets for 7 runs and Adeesha Nanayakkara 2 for 29. Bloomfield’s bowlers were spot on in reducing Ace Capital CC to 88 for 8 wickets in their 20 overs with Mishen Silva taking 2 for 5, Gayan Sirisoma 2 for19 and Deshan Fernando 2 for 20.
SSC had it easy triumphing by 7 wickets over Kurunegala YCC in a Group C match at the Colts CC grounds. Propelled by Nuwanidu Fernando who made 39 and skipper Charith Asalanka an unbeaten 37 SSC made 128 for 3 wickets in reply to Kurunegela YCC’s 127 for 6.
Panadura CC outshone Ragama CC by 42 runs in a Group D match at the NCC grounds. Panadura made 130 for 7 in 20 overs and shot out Ragama CC for 88 in 16.2 overs.
