Bangladesh 474/4 on bad light hit, slow moving 2nd day, Skipper Shanto hits maiden test ton

Sri Lanka Cricket

On a slow moving second day’s play cut short by 90 odd minutes of bad light in the final session saw Bangladesh close on 474 for 4 wickets adding 172 runs off 65 overs with skipper Mominul Haque going on to convert his overnight 64 to three figures – 127 while Najmul Hossain Shanto added a further 37 to his overnight score 126 falling for 163.

Shanto, who scored his maiden test century, was caught and bowled by Lahiru Kumara with the total on 394 for 3 in 124.1 overs. His 378-ball innings contained 17 boundaries and a six while Haque was fourth out caught by Lahiru Thirimanne off Dhananjaya de Silva with the total on 424. His 304-ball knock contained 11 boundaries. The Shanto-Haque  242-run alliance was a record highest for the third wicket for Bangladesh. At the wickets were Mushfiqur Rahman on 43 off 107(4×4 ) and Liton on 25 off 39 (2×4, 1×6) adding 50 for the fifth wicket.

It was yet another hapless day for the Lankans with the bowlers finding no support from a docile batsmen friendly pitch that did raise question marks about the nature of the wicket and its suitability.
