“Great to have won award adjusting to Overs format from T20 in short time’ CHARITH ASALANKA, BEST BATSMAN SAYS

Sri Lanka Cricket

SSC’s Charith Asalanka, the Best Batsman of the Tournament of the recently concluded Sri Lanka Cricket Limited Overs Major Club Tournament, said that he was indeed highly satisfied at having on the coveted award in the face of the fact that he had to adjust to the limited overs format from having played T20 cricket for a long period in the past few months.

“It meant that I had to spend quite a long time practicing at the nets to get the feel back to limited overs cricket. In the circumstances I am really delighted to have succeeded in that effort and earned the reward of being adjudged the best batsman of the tournament,” quipped the former Richmond College, Galle product.

The left-hander did rue his team’s failure to make it to the finals saying, “It is unfortunate that my team could not make it to the finals. But we do look forward to coming good in future tournaments.”

The 23-year old batting all-rounder, who bowls right-arm off breaks, has been one of the promising young investments by the country’s cricket establishment who has progressively flaunted his talents as a future Sri Lanka prospect. A sedate batsman for any situation, Asalanka has acquitted himself admirably captaining the Sri Lanka Emerging Team, and is a young hopeful breathing down on the seniors to seal a place in the mainstream national team given the compact all-round depth he packs.
