‘Rewarded for hard work’ BINURA FERNANDO, TOURNAMENT BEST BOWLER SAYS

Sri Lanka Cricket

Runners-up Ragama CC’s strike bowler, Binura Fernando, the Best Bowler of the recently concluded Sri Lanka Cricket Limited Overs Major Club Tournament, speaking to Sri Lanka Cricket website said that it was great to have been rewarded with the best bowler’s award.

“It is a just reward for hard work put in to my bowling to have been bestowed the award. However, we as a team would have been happier had we won the title which was unfortunate having gone so far ending as runners-up”, he said.

The 6’ 7” 25-year old former D.S. Senanayake College left arm pace bowler, who came tops claiming a total of 14 wickets, is known to use his height to good effect generating awkward bounce and swing. Fernando was drafted to Sri Lanka’s Test squad during the 2014 home series against Pakistan despite not having played first-class cricket largely on the strength of his performances for DS Senanayake College and the Sri Lanka Under-19 team.

Binura has represented Sri Lanka in two T20 internationals against Pakistan having made his debut on July 30, 2015. He marked it in style by bowling pinch hitter Shahid Afridi. He was also part of Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in August 2018.

He hoped that his recent achievement would have impressed the national selectors for a recall for national duty.
