Dushmantha Chameera’s Out of the Box 5 for peanuts a turning point in career

For a pace bowler identified as a potential speedster capable of generating high speeds, but who had been confined to a backseat through injury, Dushmantha Chameera’s 5 wickets for virtual peanuts in dismantling the high riding Bangladeshi in the final ODI certainly, has marked a turnaround to his career. 

The 6ft, right-arm paceman’s 5 for 16 was indeed out of the box Flash Gordon high stuff as he went about breaking the backbone of a hitherto impregnable Bangladesh batting mechanism, many of whom seeped in years of experience that had overridden a new look Sri Lankan side.

A domestic career that took off in 2012 with NCC, he looked set to make it big in 2015 when he was called up for national duty in all formats of the game, he was plagued by injury. 

 At age 29, Chameera commands a flowing run up generating high speed accentuated by the ability to rush batsmen off the surface.  

The former Maris Stella, College product has a track record of 28 ODIs that has fetched him 30 scalps averaging 33.3 20 T20 wickets from 22 appearances with best of 3 for 30, 20 T20 wickets from 22 appearances with best of 3 for 30, and 32 Test wickets form 11 outings with best of 5 for 47 and match haul of 9 for 115.

He has represented the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
