Rain hit final ODI abandoned after Sri Lanka flop for 166

Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka saved face courtesy the rain from a clean sweep of the tour of England when the third and final ODI was abandoned due to incessant rain after the Lankans had been bundled out for 166 in 41.1 overs with England staved from rounding it off at Bristol yesterday. David Willey was adjudged Player of the Series England took the series 2-nil in the wake of the 3-nil whitewash of the T20 series.

The shared points put Sri Lanka two places up from 13th to 11th in the ICC team rankings.

Put into bat, only Dasun Shanaka came up with a substantial score of 48 not out off 65 balls hitting 2 sixes and 2 boundaries as once again the top order came apart on a batting friendly wicket with Tom Curran, brother of Sam, doing the damage with  4 for 35. Chris Woakes took  2 for 28 and David Willey 2 for 36. Next to Shanaka was Wanindu Hasaranga’s 20.

The dismal batting performance marked a reversal of the stated accent on youth with none of those tried out impressing on tour with Pathum Nissanka in particular failing to get to double figures in the ODIs as in the T20 series.

CHIEF SCORES:
