Kamindu Mendis second highest scorer in SLC T20 Tourney

Sri Lanka Cricket

His call up to squad vs. South Africa the big break to deliver

Kamindu Mendis, who acquitted himself admirably with the bat becoming the second highest run getter with a total aggregate of 193 runs from 3 innings in the SLC Invitational T20 League Tournament, has been rewarded by a call up to the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming home ODI and T20 series versus South Africa in October.

The 22-year old all-rounder has done himself proud having emerged as one of Sri Lanka’s prime youth players having skippered the Sri Lanka Under-19 XI in the 2018 Youth World Cup. His recent achievement has underscored the youngster’s potential as a sound left hand batsman while his ability as a finger spin bowler with both arms saw him gain international focus even before being called up for national duty as a 16-year-old. The former Richmond College product found swift recognition when he was selected to a Sri Lanka squad for the T20 series versus England the same year.

The upcoming series against the South Africans could well be the youngster’s big break to deliver at the top level.
