Jaffna Kings demolish Dambulla Giants by 7 wkts

Sri Lanka Cricket

Chathuranga 4/16 Player of the Match

Fashioning out typically fast and furious flying action of the hamburger T20 short version that has come to enliven the game of cricket to sell-out stuff, Thisara Perera’s Jaffna Kings continued their king sized domination of the Lanka Premier League 2021 by demolishing Dambulla Giants by 7 wickets with 10.4 overs to spare for their fifth successive triumph in today’s day-night fixture at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

The dramatic fusion to the contest by the Kings lads was climaxed by hard hitting opening batsman Avishka Fernando when the right-hander slammed the second delivery of the ninth over by Ramesh Mendis over mid-wicket for six to wrap it up.

Having bundled out Dambulla Giants for 69 in 14.1 overs with Chathuranga de Silva coming to the party in a 4 for 16 haul, the de Silva  brothers ham fist domination was manifested by the drama  unleashed by the black magic of younger brother, Wanindu Hasaranga’s bat.  Promoted to No.3, the pinch-hitter rose to be the darling of the spectators in bludgeoning an 18-ball 37 to set the tempo in that victory charge. If elder brother Chathuranga, a prolic performer in domestic cricket, by his performance set up the victory thrust in enhancing his chances of a Sri Lanka call up, younger brother, Wanindu Hasaranga set out to make it a de Silva brothers show.

Upfront, Avishka Fernando infused the razor edge to making short shrift of Dambulla Giants 69 as he belted the bowling in a 17-ball 22 inclusive of a six and 2 fours.

Dambulla Giants were dwarfed by the Kings all-spin combination with Maheesh Theekshana claiming 3 for 21 while Hasaranga, Shoaib Malik and Ashen Bandara accounted for a wicket each with the latter’s wicket coming off his very first delivery. For the Giants, Phil Salt made 23.

The Jaffna Kings 71 for 3 off 9.2 final hurrah culminated in the decoration of Chathuranga de Silva adjudged the Player of the Match, his 4- wicket decimation of Dambulla getting the adjudicators nod over brother Hasaranga’s cameo knock.
