Thisara-Malik show: Jaffna Kings romp to 7-wkt. win over Kandy Warriors

Set 95 to win in 10 overs on the D/L, Jaffna Kings won a race against time making 95 for 3 off 8.4 overs with 8 balls to spare against Kandy Warriors with Skipper Thisara Perera leading from the front thumping an unbeaten 28 off 12 balls filled with 4 boundaries and a six at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Saturday.

 In a continuation of his rollicking form in the mega tournament, he shared in an unfinished fourth wicket partnership of 43 runs with Shoaib Malik who made 14 off 9 tucked with 2 boundaries.

 Malik, who has had a good run with the bat in the tournament, found the reward of the Player of the Match in the wake of his 1 for 19 in Kandy Warriors total of 94 for 2 off 12.2 overs in the rain marred game following two heavy downpours.

The 7-wicket triumph capped Jaffna Kings fourth smashing success from five games of outstanding cricket to topping the points table with 8 points for an unassailable lead.

Kandy Warriors innings revolved around an unbeaten 44 off 34 balls by one drop batsman Charith Asalanka inclusive of 2 boundaries and 2 sixes each. He shared in a second wicket partnership of 49 runs off 31 balls with Minod Bhanuka who made 20 off 16 inclusive of a boundary and a six.

Upfront’ Ahamed Shehzad made 22 off 19 hitting 4 boundaries. The Warriors made 94 for 2 off 12.2 overs with Tom Moore’s the other unbeaten batsman on 5 when a second downpour led to the game that had been reduced to 16 overs going into the D/R with Jaffna Kings having to score 95 to win off 10 overs.
