Jaffna’s Dhananjaya de Silva 109, but Galle’s Pabasara Waduge 92* and Dananjaya Lakshan 70* turn the tide

Sri Lanka Cricket

Jaffna skipper Dhananjaya de Silva reeled off his second century of the SLC National Super League Tournament scoring 109 off 106 balls in a total of 272 for 5 off 50 ouers against Galle, but his effort was upstaged by Galle in a race against time D/L revised 197-run chase off 25 overs at the Pallekelle International Stadium yesterday.

Dhananjaya struck 11 boundaries and 3 sixes in a typical execution of his one-day prowess with the bat.

But Galle’s third-wicket pair of Pabasara Waduge and Dananjaya Lakshan changed the tide with cameo unbeaten knocks of 70-off 92 inclusive of 10 fours and a six and 70 off 44 containing 11 fours and a six respectively in posting 165 off 100 balls.

Jaffna’s innings was also bolstered by a 79-ball 85 by veteran batsman Lahiru Thirimanne who struck 8 fours and a six. Dumith Wellalage and Sadeera Samarawickrema contributed 23 apiece.

Meanwhile, the Dambulla versus Kandy game was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Dambulla due to heavy rain.
