Kandy ran up a massive 446 against Dambulla with skipper Kamindu Mendis going on to make 94 having resumed on an overnight 68 on the second day of the SLC National Super League Tournament match at the Pallekelle International Stadium on Friday. It was the fourth occasion Mendis fell short of the three figure mark in the tournament which has fetched the former Sri Lanka Under-19 prodigy 366 runs averaging 74.
Dambulla was 77 for 3 at stumps. The pick of the Dambulla bowlers was spin veteran Malinda Pushpakumara with a haul of 7 for 121.
Dambulla’s hopes will much revolve around Minod Bhanuka who was unbeaten on 37 and skipper Ashan Priyanjan who was on 19. Kandy’s fast bowler Asitha Fernando inflicted the early damage on Dambulla taking 2 for 25 while off spinner Ashen Daniel took the other wicket to fall at a cost of 19 runs.
