Nipun Dhananjaya superb 114 in Colombo’s innings and 132-run victory over Dambulla; Kandy-Jaffna draw match

Nipun Dhananjaya struck a superb 114 in Colombo’s innings and 132-run victory over Dambulla in the ongoing Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League 4-day Tournament at the R. Premadasa International Stadium during the weekend.

Dambulla were dismissed for 277 to which Colombo replied with 516. Dambulla were bundled out for 107 in the second essay with Prabath Jayasuriya claiming 3 for 29, Lakshitha  Munasinghe 3 for 38, Ashan Priyanjan 2 for 9 and Kasun Rajitha 2 for 22. 

Also starring with the bat for Colombo was Ashen Bandara who struck a fine 91 followed by Lahiru Madushanka 68, Lahiru Madushanka 68 and Roshen Silva 57, Nisala Tharaka 47and Sammu Ashan 41.

Malinda Pushpakumara took 5 for 141 for Dambulla.

Meanwhile, Kandy was held to a draw by Jaffna at the Pallekelle International Stadium. Kandy batting first ran up 503 for 9 on a glorious 162 by Sahana Arachchige.  Other contributors were Kasun Vidura 57, Oshada Fernando 50, Nisansala Tharaka 47, Ashen Daniel 38 Kamil Mishara 35 and Avindu Theekshana 28 not out.  Nipun Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for Jaffna with 3 for 68.

Jaffna, in reply, totaled 318 on a top score of 85 by Janith Liyanage. Saminda Fernando made 73, Geeth Kumara 58 and Nisan Madushanka 56.

Kandy in the second innings reached 322 for 5 when stumps were drawn.
