Kandy’s Oshada Fernando produced an outstanding performance with the bat to being placed second in the batting standings as the second highest run getter in the country’s prime four-day domestic format. While it was a contributory factor to Kandy winning the championship, it also saw Oshada enhance his reputation as a top order batsman.
He scored 649 runs in eight innings from four matches with a highest score of 137 with a strike rate of 55.66 and averaging 81.12. His buffer of runs was heightened by 3 centuries and an equal number of half centuries.
Oshada’s overall display did mark a tremendous turnarond to reaching peak form following a lean run at national level in his last few outings. In the local tournament the Moratuwa product unleashed the type of batting that saw him emerge as one of the country’s promising young discoveries to the game.
