Colombo’s Prabath Jayasuriya did enhance his chances of a Sri Lankan recall following his superb showing with the ball in emerging the top bowler in the recent Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League Tournament. His team fell short of winning the championship title losing to Jaffna in the semi-finals. It was something to rue having had to miss out on the crucial encounter after testing positive for the Covid-19 virus.
But he did have the consolation of helping his side to topping the points table with a 50 plus tally. His tally of 26 wickets was as much a personal triumph in coming trumps up as the leading bowler of the tournament. The slow left arm orthodox bowler did raise his stock as a consistent wicket take.
The 30-year old all-rounder hailing from Matale, did bring to play an effective run with the ball in stamping his name in coming on top of more recognised players in the trade. Having lost his way since making his ODI debut in 2018 and figuring in just two appearances that year against South Africa in August that year, Jayasuriya has certainly put his name for future recognition.
