News Padding Up

Roshen Silva struck highest century in SLC Ntnl. Super League Tourney – presses claim for Ntnl. Recognition

Although not ending up on the winning side, Colombo’s Roshen Silva did achieve the milestone of scoring the highest century in the recent Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League Tournament. The compact left-hander in doing so did enhance his claims for national recognition once again.

Roshen came big striking 174 and went a mite further in notching up three half centuries for a tournament aggregate of 334 runs. In that run vein it was unfortunate that he had to miss out the crucial semi-final against Jaffna which Colombo lost.

Nevertheless, Roshen had made the Super League tournament the stage to getting into the run making act in what was an impressive display of being in good nick with the bat. Although a non starter in the semi-final having being indisposed by the Covid pandemic, Roshen did underline his prowess as a durable middle order batsman. His strong point has been his endurance capacity in keeping one end going.

For a player who made the grade representing his country in test cricket some years ago and who was recalled for Sri Lanka’s last tour of India but was unable to make the final eleven, his recent form in the country’s prime domestic four-day format has certainly bettered his prospects of getting the big call up.
