Tamil Union launched their title bid on a first day score of 202 for 7 wickets against Sebestianites in the final of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Clubs Emerging Championship at the Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds yesterday.

The positive take off by Tamil Union was fronted by Ravindu Fernando who stroked a workmanlike unbeaten 63 off 95 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries and a six.

At the wickets with Ravindu Fernando was Ravin de Silva on 21 off 20 filled with a boundary. The total was boosted by contributions by Supun Kavindu 24 and Kavindu Pathiratne 24.

Tharindu Ratnayake bore the brunt of the bowling for Sebestianites claiming 3 wickets for 91 with Sandun Fernando and Manelka de Silva chipping in with 2 for 20 and 2 for 36 respectively.
