B’desh recover from 5/24 havoc to 277 on unbeaten tons by Litton Das 135, Mushiqur Rahim 115

Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lankan pacies Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando rocked Bangladesh’s top order as the hosts plunged to 5 for 24, before recovering to 277 on a face saving 253-run unfinished sixth-wicket partnership between Litton Das who struck 135 and Mushiqur Rahim 115 on the opening day of the second Test at Maipur, Dhaka on Monday.

Rajitha took 3 wickets and Fernando 2 in 6.4 overs of that early calamity in a superb bout of
medium pace bowling as Sri Lanka took a sensational early grip of the match only to see it evaporate in the face of the Das-Rahim willow works.

Das dominated the partnership hitting 16 boundaries and a six in his unbeaten 221-ball knock while Rahim reeled out his second successive ton against the Lankans following his feat in the first test. The comeback effectively put paid to the Lankans hopes of driving home the initiative of what was the perfect start as the attack wilted under the progressive stroke-play unleashed by Das and Rahim.

The fight back was to reverse what had looked like a wrong call by the host captain in winning the toss and opting to bat. Kasun Rajitha’s figures remained unspoilt reading 3 for 43 while Asitha Fernando went for some stick on the day – 2 for 80.

CHIEF SCORES: Bangladesh 1st innings 277/5 (85 Overs) (Litton Das n.o. 135, Mushiqur Rahim n.o. 115, Kasun Rajitha 3/43, Asitha Fernando 2/80).
