Somerset defeated the Sri Lanka Development Squad by 66 runs in the second T20 at Taunton yesterday. Put into bat, Somerset ran up a formidable 194 for 4 wickets in 20 overs and dismissed the SL Development Squad for 128 in 17.3 overs.
George Bartlett put Somerset in control striking a whirlwind 82 off only 38 balls clobbering 9 sixes and 2 boundaries while co-opener James Raw made 47 off 35 hitting 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. They shared in a first wicket partnership of 70 off 54 balls. Tom Banton kept up the momentum striking 3 sixes and an equal number of boundaries in a rapid 29-ball 34.
The Lankan innings came a cropper against the tight Somerset attack with only Ashen Bandara making a substantial score of 38 off 36 inclusive of 3 boundaries. Only two others – Nuwanidu Fernando 21 inclusive of 2 sixes and a boundary, and Skipper Nipun Dananjaya 14 reached double figures. Topping the county side’s bowling were Ben Green and Lewis Goldsworthy who took 3 for 25 and 3 for 28 respectively with Max Walker 2 for 15.
