Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka had lost 2 wickets for 38 runs and trailed Bangladesh by 59 runs having conceded a 98-run first innings lead after the fourth day of the second Test at Chattogram’s Zahar Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday. Oshada Fernando was run out for 19 and night watchman Lasith Embuldeniya for 2.

The two early loss of wickets left Sri Lanka under pressure going into the fifth day with Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne on 18.

Bangladesh totalled 495 adding 177 runs to the overnight 318 for 3 with Mushiqur Rahim, who was unbeaten on 53, going on to complete a century in becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score 5000 Test runs. He made 105 off 282 balls hitting just 4 boundaries in his measured innings.

Tamim Iqbal’s quest to reaching the 5000-run landmark was not to be as the opener, who had retired hurt from cramps the previous day, fell for his overnight score of 133 bowled by Kasun Rajitha. Litton Das propped up the score making a run a ball 88 off 189 stroking 10 boundaries.

Kasun Rajitha was the pick of the Lankan bowlers taking 4 for 60 and Asitha Fernando 3/72.
