Kandy CC stunned Ragama CC by romping to a 67-run win in a Group A fixture of the SLC Major League Tournament played at Thurstan College grounds yesterday. Set a target of 359 Ragama was bowled out for 293. Meanwhile, NCC defeated Navy SC by 10 wickets in a Group B match played at Welisara while Tamil Union won by 5 wickets in a Group B match at the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium while Police SC overran Colts CC by 6 wickets in a Group A game at Police Park as Colts gamble declaring on 145 for 7 setting their opponents a target of 264 misfired. While Army SC beat Ace Capital CC by 195 in two days at Katunayake, the rest of the matches were drawn.
A feature of the weekend was Ragama CC’s wicket-keeper batsman Nishan Madushka reaching the magical 1000-run mark despite ending on the losing side. Another noteworthy feat was Bloomfield’s Madawa Warnapura striking a defiant unbeaten 123 in a total of 374 for 4 wickets in reply to Chilaw Marians CC’s mammoth score of 552 in the drawn Group B fixture at Bloomfield grounds. Meanwhile, Roshen Silva struck a superb 103 in SSC’s 273 in reply to Moors SC’s 355 in forcing a draw in the Group B drawn match at the SSC grounds.
