United Southern Sports Club emerged champions of the Governor’s Trophy One Day Tournament defeating Leos Cricket Club by 5 wickets in the final played yesterday at De the Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.
United Southern Sports Club chased down a target of 170 with relative ease finishing the match off in 41.1 overs after dismissing their opponents for 16 in 46.1 overs. The winners profited from two competent half centuries by Pathum Mendis who made 61 and Washitha Amarasinghe 52 with Tharindu Nirmal adding the final flourish with an unbeaten 31.
Leo CC’s highest scorer was Gihan de Zoysa who made 31 followed by Hansaja Viswajith 27 Primash Obris 25 Rasindu Fernando 22 and Nishan Jayamal 21.
Ruchira Silva and Atthula Senaratne combined in corralling Leo CC’s batting claiming 3 for 17 and 3 for 30 respectively to set up the win.
