SSC’s Nipun Dananjaya tops 200; CCC’s Kamindu Mendis and Moors Ramesh Mendis hit tons

SSC’s opening batsman Nipun Dananjaya completed a splendid double century as the home team amassed 444 for 9 declared and soon had Colts CC struggling on 178 for 8 with Dhananjaya Lakshan and Angelo Mathews unbeaten on 56 and 46 respectively at the SSC grounds on the second day of the SLC Major League Tournament yesterday. Nipun Dananjaya, who was unbeaten on an overnight 173, had the honour of completing the magical 200 feat as SSC swept from an overnight 292 for 3 to 444 with Roshen Silva went on to convert his overnight score of 65 to 96., Manoj Sarathchandra made 68. Dunith Wellalage took 8 for 152 for Colts.

Kamindu Mendis struck a masterly 122 as CCC 481 as the Sebastianites trailed by 329 ending the day on 1 for no loss. CCC’s run feast was mounted from an overnight 128 for 2′ with Minod Bhanuka making 83.

Meanwhile, Panadura SC’s allrounder Nimesh Vimukthi completed a superb double striking 107 and claiming 5 for 73 and 3 for 40 as Navy SC faced an innings defeat trailing by 125 tottering on 89 for 6 following on after being dismissed for 219 in the first innings of the Group B encounter at Welisara. Koshan Danuska took 4 for 76.

NCC was on 318 for 5 on a top score of 88 by Niroshan Dickwella in reply to Nugegoda Welfare Sports Clubs 371 in a Group B match at the NCC Grounds. Nugegoda’s main run getters were Kumesh .Buddika 109, Ranitha Liyanarachchi 70 and Naveen Fernando unbeaten on 50. NCC’s Matheesha Pathirana took 4 for 46 and Lasith Embuldeniya 3/117. NCC’s total was also propped up by Kavin Bandara 71, Ahan Wickremesinghe 55 and Lahiru Udara 18. Naveen Fernando took 2 for 43 and Chaminda Bandara 2 for 103. At Thurston College grounds Ragama CC converted from an overnight 290 for 5 to a mammoth 499 for 9 declared to which Lankan CC had replied with 122 for 3 in a Group A fixture. Ragama’s Avishka Tharindu converted his overnight 24 to 90. Lahiru Dawalage made 70, Ishan Jayaratne unbeaten on 34 and Nipun Malinga 29. Lankan’s wicket takers were Geeth Kumara 2 for 63, Kasun Madushanka 2 for 92 and Rajeewa Weerasinghe 2/102. Fronting the Lankan’s innings was Kasun Abeyrathne with a steady 54 with Geeth Kumara on 33 as they trailed by 377 at stumps. Negombo CC made 241 in response to Saracens SC’s 235 on a top score of 79 by Angelo Jayasinghe, Kevin Almeida 75 and Jatin Saxena 24. Saracens wicket takers were Mohamed Dilshad 3 for 55, Kavika Dilshan 3 for 60 and Dushan Vimukthi 2 for 72.

Tamil Union recovered from 92 for 6 to a respectable 200 with Ravindu Fernando making a defiant 48 and an unbeaten 24 by Dilum Sadeera in reply to Army SC’s 212 in Group B at the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium. Kavindu Pathiratne made 23 and Raveen de Silva 21. Army’s Asanka Manoj took 4 for 81 , Yashoda Mendis 2 for 28 and Seekuge Prasanna 2 for 57. Army was on 160 for 4 in the innings with Ashan Randika making 51 and Pathum Botheju on 40 and Mahesh Kumara on 21. Shehan Fernando made 29. Shiran Fernando took 3 for 38. Moors SC ran up 394 in reply to BRC’s 231 with Ramesh Mendis slamming 119. Sohan de Livera 73 and Adeesha Thilanchana 54. Other contributors were Pasindu Sooriyabandara 32, Milan Rathnayake unbeaten on 23 and Janishka Perera 22. BRC’s wicket takers were Dushan Hemantha 5 for 85, Tillekeratne Sampath 2 for 32 and Duvindu Tillekeratne 2 for 79.,BRC was on 33 for no loss in the second innings with Dulaj Ashen on 21 and Leo Franscisco on 7.
