Sri Lanka Women went down to India Women by 8 wickets in the Asia Cup final played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday. Batting first, the Sri Lanka Women faltered managing just 65 for 9 wickets off 20 overs which their Indian counterparts chased down in only 8.3 overs.
The Lankan Women got off to a disastrous start with both openers skipper Chamarie Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani getting run out for 6 and 2. Only Inoka Ranaweera 18 not out and Oshadi Ranasinghe 13 reached double figures against the on song Indian attack with Renuka Singh claiming Player of the Match figures of 3 for 5 and Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakward 2 for 13 and 16 respectively.
India Women was powered to victory by opening batter Smriri Mandhana who struck an unbeaten 51 off just 25 balls inclusive of 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was unbeaten on 11 as the Indians finished on 71 for 2 off 8.3 overs. India’s Deepti Sharma was Player of the Series.
