Sri Lanka’s chances of making last 4 hinges on beating England and Afghanistan upsetting Australia, Ireland upsetting New Zealand

Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka’s 6-wicket triumph over Afghanistan has lifted Dasun Shanaka’s team from the brink of down of the table to a wafer thin waft of hope to making it from Group 1 to the semi finals of the T20 World Cup. That it has boiled down to great expectations. Bordering on the herculean of beating the tough going England in their final group fixture to the hand of luck working their way in the hope that Afghanistan, whom they knocked out, would ball the Lankans out by upsetting reigning champions Australia is that two way mountainous road that would get the former 2014 champions there. That this semi final hope of getting among the top two from a triangle tangle to breaking free from pipping two of the heavyweights England, New Zealand and Australia to making among the top two in the group is Sri Lanka’s reality outside chance.

Indeed, making it to the last four has thus become a reality situation of performing to overriding table leaders England as much as to having their fingers crossed as mere spectators in hoping against hope that lowly Afghanistan would prevail over Australia.

Indeed, it is a ship going past an iceberg dependence for Shanaka and the team getting to the last four of the extravaganza.

Another outside chance Sri Lanka would be pinning hope is on Ireland upsetting New Zealand. While the Kiwis are on top of their game despite losing to England, Ireland does carry a threatening knack of upsetting the favourites which has seen the Irish storm their way into international reckoning.
