UNDER-19 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP:

The Sri Lanka Women went down by 10 runs to Bangladesh Women in an Under-19 Women’s World Cup Group A match at Wilowmoore Park B Field in Benoni, South Africa. Responding to Bangladesh’s 165 for 2 off 20 overs, in a closely fought out game, Sri Lanka made a valiant effort scoring 155 for the loss of 4 wickets on Skipper Vishmi Gunaratne’s unbeaten 61 off 54 balls and Dewmini Vihanga who struck 55 off 44, but were pipped on the run rate. The pair overcame the early setback of both openers falling cheaply with Vishmi Gunaratne striking 8 boundaries and a six, and Dewmini Vihanga 7 boundaries and 2 sixes. .Following Vihanga’s dismissal next in Dulanga Dissanayake struck a blow of boundaries in a last gasp effort but the asking rate was a mite more.

Bangladesh was upped by half centuries from Afifa Hammira Anam 59 off 43 with 5 boundaries and 3 sixes and Shoma Akter a cameo 50 off 28 with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. Dilara Akter sustained the tempo with a 27-ball 36 with 3 boundaries and a six.
