Twenty eight year old medium pacer Mohammad Shiraz claimed 5 wickets for 60 as Jaffna was shot out for 130 before Sohan de Livera struck an unbeaten 105 to put Galle in a strong position of 193 for 4 wickets on the opening day of their Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League 2023 encounter played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday. Shiraz, a product of Madeena College, Kandy, who has been impressing along the way on the domestic scenario, produced a telling performance with the ball in hogging the 5-wicket limelight as Jaffna’s batsmen came a cropper to his pace.

Former Sri Lanka spin prodigy Akila Dananjaya, seeking a national call up again, came up with a 2 for 24 back up take along with Kaumal Nanayakkara 2 for 13. Meanwhile, Sohan de Livera, the 22-year old Sri Devananda College product from Ambalangoda, left-hander, cracked 12 boundaries in his 196-ball unbeaten knock in accounting for more than three quarter of Galle’s total With him was Mahesh Kumara on 42 off 92 inclusive of 4 boundaries. Lahiru Madushanka took 2 for 35 for Jaffna.
