Opening batsman Rehan Peiris struck a run a ball Player of the Final 129 to guide Colombo South U15 to the Sri Lanka Youth Under 15 Cricket Tournament Championship title over their Colombo North counterparts by a comprehensive 86 runs yesterday at the Mercantile Cricket Association Grounds. Colombo South ran up 256 for 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs and dismissed their opponents for 170 runs in 47.1 overs.
Rehan Peiris’ innings was more the remarkable by the junior batting prodigy hammering as many as 10 sixes and 5 boundaries in what was his second century of the tournament in Colombo South capping their achievement with a remarkable unbeaten record. Together with and Lasiru Sandakan who made 40, the pair posted 120 runs for the second wicket.
Colombo North’s Senith Nethsara, Dasith Perera and Lahiru Lakmal claimed 2 wickets each respectively.
Sadeesha Silva top scored for Colombo North U15 with 47 followed by Lahiru Lakmal 28 and Yenula Danthanarayana 23 while Janul Damhiru took 2 wickets for 42 for Colombo South.
While Player of the Final –Colombo South’s Rehan Peiris took the Player of the Final award, Yasiru Lakshan of Galle U15 was adjudged Best Batsman of the Tournament and Colombo South’s Himaru Deshan Best Bowler of the Tournament.
