SSC rode themselves into a box seat 250 for 3 against Police SC in the mega SLC Major Clubs League Cricket final fronted by a fine century by opening batsman Avishka Fernando who scored 107 off 137 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes and half century by Shevon Daniel 56 off 88 inclusive of 7 boundaries in a 111-run opening partnership after being put into bat at the NCC grounds yesterday.
SSC skipper Nipun Dhananjaya, a solid top order batsman who has time and again been knocking on the door to catch the eyes of the national selectors for big time national duty, made a patient 40 off 75 balls with 2 fours, and Kusal Mendis 29 off 55 balls with 2 fours.
The crunch game was marred by rain with a late start after 45 minutes of the scheduled time and play ending prematurely with 27 of the allotted overs not completed.
