Three-Day Format Major Clubs Joint Champs SSC Captain Nipun Dhananjaya says ‘A great joy to have helped SSC to a title after 7 years, but unfortunate rain ruined our chances of winning the final’

Nipun Dhananjaya, a compact left-hand batsman who has been among the runs both in the conclude Sri Lanka Cricket Major Clubs 3-Day Tournament and Limited Overs Tourney, who skippered SSC to becoming joint champions along with Police SC in the local long version of the game said, “It was a great fulfilment for me and my teammates to have contributed to taking our club to a championship title after seven years.”

SSC was in a commanding position in the 4-day final against Police SC in scoring a commanding 253 for 3 wickets off 63 overs after been put into bat, but their initiative was blown away by the rains that came down later in the day and washed out the rest of the game.

“We were in such a strong position after the first day that we would have been able to go for a win, but unfortunately bas weather was a spoiler,” quipped 23-year old Dhananjaya who went to state that the fantastic team effort of the players had enabled SSC to lead Group A of the points table in making it to the finals. “It is a great satisfaction that we came tops in a tournament superseding 11 other competitive teams,” he said.

Dhananjaya further stated that there were many as six national players in the SSC side. He singled out players like Shivon Daniel, Avishka Fernando, Prabath Jayasuriya, Lakshitha Munasinghe, Nisala Tharaka and Nimnaka Jayathilake to have excelled in their success.
