Afghanistan’s Head Coach, Jonathan Trott, the former England batting star, said at yesterday’s post-match press confab that he was fairly pleased with his team’s performance despite losing the one-off test to Sri Lanka in that there were the plus points such as the batting performance on the third day highlighted by opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran’s century.

“Certainly, Ibrahim Zadran’s century was high stuff despite that defeat and I must say that overall I’m quite pleased with Afghanistan’s performance in defeat given the fact that we have played just 7 test matches in the last 7 years in comparison to Sri Lanka’s 24 matches during that same period, “he contended.

He went on to observe that the top three batsmen including Rahmat Shah who scored half centuries in both innings had raised hope for Afghanistan test cricket in the future in a progress that was still early days given the fact that the minnow’s nation had not had a fair share of test cricket under its belt o gaining the much-needed experience in going forward.

He went on to state that Sri Lanka was a great destination to play cricket and that Afghanistan looked forward to coming on top in the short formats of the 50-over and 20-over series’ against the host country.
