DELIGHTED LANKAN SKIPPER DHANANJAYA DE SILVA SAYS
By Srian Obeyesekere
Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva expressed his post-match ecstasy of leading his country to his maiden triumph in the job by stating that ‘we always kept their run rate down while comparatively maintaining a higher run rate. We knew that even if the wickets did not come that such a strategy would bring us victory.’
While heaping praise on his main wicket taker Player of the Match, Prabath Jayasuriya, he said that he was overly pleased with his team’s performance in every department of the game.
“Prabath as in the past did the job for us again when it mattered most by stepping in to finish off Afghanistan by his splendid 5-wicket haul. I regard him as a great match winner and look forward to his wicket taking prowess in the future as well with several more tours lined up this year,” he quipped.
Commenting on his unfortunate run out in the first innings Dhananjaya admitted that it was his fault altogether.
“It was my fault altogether because Angie (Angelo Mathews) was tired at the time having reached his century and I should not have rushed for that single,” he owned up.
He reiterated that he had the right mix of player output to take Sri Lanka through to further success in the future.
