Opener Kusal Mendis starred by an incredible unbeaten 79 off 23 balls as Jaffna Titans swept to their fifth win in a terrific unbeaten sequence thumping Colombo Jaguars by 9 wickets with 4.2 overs to spare in their Lanka T -10 Super League cricket fixture played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Having restricted Colombo Jaguars to 98 for 8 wivkets in the 10 overs, Jaffna Titans powered to 101 for 1 in just 5.4 overs heightened by Kusal Mendis’ fireworks ridden by 5 over the top and 11 boundaries. Charith Asalanka was on 15.
Put in to bat, Colombo Jaguars came a cropper in an initial decimation to 5 for 28 in 3.5 overs against the willy leg spin of Diunith Wellalage who claimed 3 wickets for 5 runs. as invited to bat first couldn’t make good momentum from the beginning and was 28 for 5 after 3.5 overs. Ramesh Mendis was the only Colombo batsman to resist by anunbeaten 28 off 16 hitting 2 sixes and a boundary.
The Titans giant killing run is insulated by a 12 point top of the table domination with a 4.179 net run rate to gearing for the first qualifier today and already in tomorrow’s play off while Hambantota Bangla Tigers and Galle Marvels have also entered tomorrow’s qualifier round.
The first two teams of the points table will meet in the qualifier one toady while thired and fourth teams will play in the eliminator.
