Sri Lanka bundled out Malaysia for 23 runs in handing out the host nation,making their maiden appearance in the a massive 139-run thrashing in Sunday’s curtain raiser in Kuala Lumpur.
The Lankan lasses’ victory thrust was mounted on a riotous batting display led by No. 3 Dahami Sanethma who struck 55 off 52 balls in hoisting 52 runs in the power play together with Sanjana Kavindi 30 off 13 to running up 162 after being put into bat with Hiruni Hansika (28 off 21) and Shashini Gimhani (13 off 7) swelling it up further down.
A highlight of the Lankan attack was dismissing six of the Malaysians for ducks with none of the host batters reaching double figures in a routing lasting just 14.1 overs before left-arm spinner Chamodi Praboda who claimed 3 wickets for 5 runs off 4 overs including two in the 17th over with Manudi Nanayakkara and Limansa Thilakarathna accounting for two. Finished with figures of 4-2-5-3, Chamodi Praboda struck twice in the second over to reduce the hosts to 2 for 3.
