Sri Lanka trounced the West Indies by 81 runs in an impacting back to back triumphant surge of both their Group A matches of the 2025 ICC T20 World Cup having run up 165 on opting to bat on the luck of the coin and bowling out their opponents for 84 runs following a top order routing by left arm off spinner Chamudi Praboda 3 for 16 in the power play in a clinical all round display at the Bayumas Oval in Kusal Lampur, Malaysia.
It was Sri Lanka’s forceful batting display that has been their strong point in posting their highest score in the ongoing world cup surpassing the 162 in bringing down hosts Malaysia that set the tempo to thrashing the West Indies. Driving it was skipper Manudi Nanayakkara in the pivotal No.3 with a forceful top score of 41 off 31 timing three to the boundary while upfront opener Sanjana Kavindi 39 off 36 with 6 to the boundary, Dahami Sanethma unbeaten on a rousing 31 off 25 with 3 boundaries while Sumudu Nisansala had started the run assault with 19 off 22 hitting 2 boundaries and one over the top.
The West Indies lost their way in a top order strangulation by Praboda who accounted for Asabi Callender,.Naijanni Cumberbatch and Jaezara Claxton. Only skipper Samara Ramnath played a defiant run a ball 24 hitting 3 boundaries while extras of 36 was the highest of all,
Praboda was well supposed by Asini Thalagune who claimed 2 for 16.
Sri Lanka end their Group A campaign against India on Thursday, while West Indies face a crunch encounter with hosts Malaysia as they aim to finish in the top three and reach the Super 6.
