Dambulla and National test skipper Dhananjaya de Silva struck 134 off 186 balls decked with 12 fours and a six in back to back hundreds, and Pavan Rathnayake an unbeaten 151 filled with 20 fours as the fourth wicket pair flayed the Colombo attack to the tune of a total if 341 for 4 wickets in taking s first innings lead of 41 runs at stumps on the second day of the Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League Tournament match at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Dhananjaya, who followed up his century versus Galle last week in a lost cause, continued his run vein having come together in a bad scenario as last week with Dambulla badly placed on 35 for 3 wickets in joining with Pavan Rathnayake to both reeling off big centuries.
Meanwhile, Kandy rode to 332 in reply to Jaffna’s 201 for a firm 131 lead anchored by Janushka Perera:s 97 off 137 with 12 boundaries, and skipper Sahan Arachchige 45 off 104 with 4 across and 1 over the top.
Other chief run getters were Chanindu Wickramasinghe 45, Shiran Fernando 38, Kamil Mishara 27 and Sohan de Livera 25.
Kandy’s Thatindu Rathnayake took 5 wickets for 99, Asanka Manoj 3 for 64 and Januth Liyaage 2 for 27.
Jaffna were 31 for 1 in the second innings.
