Sri Lanka swept Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs this morning winning with more than a day and three quarter to spare in the ICC World Championship second test match to getting on the board the points, requiring just 28 minutes of 5.4 overs to finish it off in claiming the last four wickets for the addition of 18 runs from yesterday’s overnight 115 for 6 with the orthodox left armer Prabath Jayasuriya adding three of those for a brilliant comeback 5 for 56 haul, and Tharindu Rathnayake putting the final icing on the cake trapping Ebadot Hossain leg before wicket for 6 in what was a magnificent champagne triumph on a largely batting friendly SSC track up to the third day with Sri Lanka’s 158-run hero with the bat Pathum Nissanka adjudged the Player of the Match at the SSC Grounds.
Nissanka went on to round it off with the Player of the Series big award on the merit of his 187 in the first test match.
While pacer Asitha Fernando and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva made the initial breakthroughs to victory on the third day, the gangling Prabah Jayasuriya stormed back to his brilliant best with the ball in running through the Bangladeshis with the two wickets on the previous day with the key wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim bowling him all ends up to boot to maximising his spin magic in adding three more in that final sweep including the stonewalling Litton Das caught behind by wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis for 14.
