SLC MAJOR CLUBS LIMITED OVERS SEMI FINAL

By Srian Obeyesekere

Ashen Bandara played a typical lead from the front captain’s unbeaten innings of 55 off 84 balls striking 5 boundaries in taking Police Sports Club to the finals of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Clubs Limited Overs 2025 Championship by pulling it off by 4 wickets in overhauling Colts CC’s 143 off 39 overs with 15.1 overs to spare in what turned out to be a seesawing day night semi final with their opponents coming back strongly to making a match of it in reducing Police to 5 for 99 at one stage in an almost similar scenario when the Colts were reeling on 5 for 82 into the 19th over after being put into bat at the Colombo Cricket Club grounds.

The margin of difference was the Police’s superior bowling attack led by Dilum Sudeera 4 for 36, Dhanuja Induwara 3 for 24 who accounted for Mathews, and upfront quick Charuka Pramod 2 for 13.

Full marks to the skipper Ashen Bandara, who put to play a characteristic measured trait of not rushing into it in digging his side out of trouble to victory. A trait though that has not found him the deserving national recognition apparently lacking the necessary encouragement of being pursued with in a stop start career of but just a few flings on the big stage.
Vishad Randika was spot on by a 46 ball 36 hitting 2 sixes.
