Introduction to Cricket

Enrollment & Selection Criteria for
“Introduction to Cricket”

“Introduction to Cricket” is designed for individuals who are willing to enter “Sri Lanka Cricket Coaching Pathway” for establishing basic cricket knowledge required prior to becoming an accredited coach.

That is, individuals involved with Schools as Physical Training Instructors, Sport Coordinators & Master in Charge, individuals assisting schools, Clubs & cricket academy coaches, individuals who have played cricket (minimum school level).
“Introduction to Cricket” aims to develop basic cricket knowledge for entering into Sri Lanka Cricket Coaching Pathway.

Application Dates: From 1st January till end of February each year
  • Course Dates – January to end of March each year (according to demand)
  • Venue: Provincial Centers of Sri Lanka Cricket
  • Note: Full Attendance is necessary to complete “Introduction to Cricket”
  • Cost: Rs. 2,000/= for candidates – including meals and course materials
  • Language: The Course is conducted in both Sinhala & English
  • Number of Participants: Each course is restricted to 25 candidates only

SLC Employs The Following Criteria in Selecting Candidates For The Courses

Physical Training Instructors & Sport Coordinators working in Schools

Criteria 02

Individuals supporting School’s, Clubs & Cricket Academy coaches

Criteria 03

School Teachers working as Master in Charge in Schools

Criteria 04

Individuals who have played cricket at minimum school level

Eligibility

Those who are interested to start coaching, supporting qualified coaches & who have played Cricket (Minimum school level)

Having a degree or a diploma in Sport related study will be an additional advantage
Applications to be selected by the Provincial Education Units through face to face interview
Condition of health – Should be physically fit and mentally sound

Minimum age is 18 years and above

Successful Participants Will Receive

N.B. Completion Of This Course Will Not Qualify Individuals To Act As Coaches, Rather Will Be An Requirement To Enter In To Coach Accreditation Pathway

What involves in the Program?

The Process
  • Short listed applicants will be interviewed by respective Provincial Coach Education Unit
  • Introduction to Cricket will be conducted & delivered by Provincial & District Coaches
  • The program will run for 2 days covering basic coaching points on each skill mentioned in the SLC coaching manual + Rules of the Game Module covering Cricket Laws 1 to 12
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete all modules covering main skills when participating for the 2-day program
  • Program will be delivered using classroom & field activities for demonstrations
  • Each skill will be assessed through a minor written exam testing the knowledge on coaching points
  • Top 24 participants of (minimum) two programs will be selected for the next level 1 program by the Respective Provincial office

Each successful candidate who completes the learning process will be Accredited by Sri Lanka Cricket as a Level 1 Coach

Enrollment & Selection Criteria for Level 1 Coaching Course

Purpose of the Program
Level 1 Coaching Course is designed for coaches involved at levels of the player pathway, which builds School Cricket structure of Sri Lanka cricket. That is, coaches involved in Government Schools, International Schools, Private Schools & Academy structures. The level “1” coaching course aims to develop Basic Technical & Practical Coaching knowledge of the Junior Youth Coaches.

Applications: Respective Provincial Cricket Associations will short list & select participants during “Introduction to Cricket ” (Formally Level 0)
  • Course Dates – Decided by the Provincial Cricket Association (according to demand)
  • Venue: Provincial Cricket Association Centers of Sri Lanka Cricket
  • Note: Full attendance is necessary to complete Level 1 Course
  • Cost: 10,000/= for Candidates – including meals and course materials
  • Language: The Course is conducted in both Sinhala & English
  • Number of Participants: Each course is restricted to 24 candidates only

The Process
  • Applicants will be selected through “Introduction to Cricket Course” assessments, conducted by Provincial Coach Education Units
  • Selected candidates will be required to obtain valid First Aid Qualification & Police Clearance Certificate before participating for the 4-day workshop
  • The 4-day workshop will be conducted at the respective provincial centers according to the demand
  • Attendees required to complete “Skill Assessments” covering Batting, Fast Bowling, Spin Bowling, Wicket Keeping & Fielding at the end of the 4-day program
  • Upon completion of the 4-day program, participants need to complete a 3 month observation period, where they will be assessed by respective Provincial / District coaches on application of new coaching knowledge.

Accreditation

Each successful candidate who completes the learning process will be Accredited by Sri Lanka Cricket as a Level 1 Coach

Coach Accreditation Course

Enrollment & Selection Criteria for Level 2 Coaching Course

Purpose of the Program
Level 2 Coaching Course is designed for coaches involved at levels of the player pathway which feed into the high-performance levels of cricket. That is, coaches involved in Domestic club, Provincial & District, Schools & Academy structures. The level “2” coaching course aims to develop practical coaching knowledge & skills for the intermediate senior coach.

Application Dates: From 1st till 31st July of each year
  • Course Dates – April & September of each year (according to demand)
  • Venue: Super Provincial Centers of Sri Lanka Cricket
  • Note: Full attendance is necessary to complete Level 2 Course
  • Cost: 100,000/= for candidates – including meals and course materials
  • Language: The Course is conducted in both Sinhala & English
  • Number of Participants: Each course is restricted to 20 candidates only
  • Technology Use: All stages of the program will involve use of latest technology & being conversant in using laptops, tablets & mobiles will accelerate learning

Those who have represented National in Men’s or Women’s teams with a valid Level “1” accreditation

Degree or a Diploma in Sport related studies will be an additional advantage

Police Clearance Certificate must be submitted (Not more than six months old)
Sri Lankan Nationals who are currently accredited Level One Cricket Coach with minimum 3 years as a current practising Level One Coach (Preference will be given to SLC Level “1” accredited coaches)
Attendance in SLC conducted Coach Education Programs and having valid “Coaching License” with coach education unit will be an added advantage
Condition of Health – Should be physically fit and mentally sound
Applications will be selected by the Coach Education Unit

The Process
  • Short listed applicants will be interviewed by SLC Coach Education Unit (Questionnaire/Evaluations – strictly maintained in order to establish transparency & high standard)
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete an online pre-course assignment covering main subjects before participating for the 5-day workshop
  • 5-day workshop at respective super provincial centre (Colombo/ Kandy/ Dambulla/ Southern)
  • Attendees need to complete a six-week player development program during a 6-week period, involving a senior player in their coaching system, will be conducted to follow up and applying the learnings from the 5-day workshop
  • 4-day workshop at respective super provincial centre (Colombo/ Kandy/ Dambulla/ Southern)
  • Successful participants will be awarded SLC level 2 accreditation & will be directed on enhancing coaching knowledge with Coach Education Unit guidance

Accreditation

Each successful candidate who completes the learning process will be accredited by Coach Education Unit – High Performance Centre and Sri Lanka Cricket as a Level 2 Coach.

Coach Accreditation Course

Enrolment & Selection Criteria for SLC Level 3 Coaching Course

Purpose of the Program
Sri Lanka Cricket Level 3 Coaching Course is designed for coaches involved at Elite level of the player pathway, which feed into National Cricket Setup. That is, coaches involved in Domestic first class, Provincial & District and Division 1 Schools structures. The level “3” coaching course aims to develop high-performance coaches with planning and managing skills required for coaching at Elite and international level.
Application Dates: From 12th Jan till 11th February 2022
  • Course Dates – 1st Residential Phase – May & 2nd Residential Phase – April (next year)
  • Venue: Super Provincial Centres of Sri Lanka Cricket
  • Note: Full attendance for both Residential Phases are necessary to complete Level 3 Course
  • Cost: 350,000/= for candidates – including accommodation, transfers (course related), meals and course materials
  • Language: The Course is conducted in both Sinhala & English
  • Number of Participants: Each course is restricted to 20 candidates only
  • Technology Use: All stages of the program will involve use of latest technology & being conversant in using laptops, tablets & mobiles will accelerate your learning

Also coaches who are currently working as SLC District Coaches, Division 1 School Head Coaches will be considered according to available slots.
Coaches who are currently working as SLC Provincial Coaches, currently Contracted Premier Club Head Coaches are eligible to apply.
Applications to be selected by the Coach Education Unit, Chief Cricket Operating Officer and Head of National Cricket Development.
Valid First Aid Course Certification
Degree or a Diploma in Sport related studies will be an additional advantage.
Condition of health – Should be physically fit and mentally sound.
Attendance to the SLC conducted education programs and valid coaching licence registered with Coach Education Unit.
Being conversant in using coaching technology, laptops, tablets & mobiles will be essential.
Police Clearance Certificate must be submitted (Not more than six months old)
Those who have represented National Men’s or Women’s teams with a valid Level “2” accreditation will be considered, if involved with premier club cricket under any coaching capacity.
Sri Lankan nationals who are currently accredited Level 2 Cricket Coach, with minimum 5 years’ experience as a current Level 2 Coach (Preference will be given to SLC level “2” /Cricket Australia Level 2 / ICC Level 2 accredited coaches)

The Process
  • All applicants are required to sit for an initial paper assessment and interview conducted by High Performance Centre panel (Questionnaire/Evaluations – strictly maintained in order to establish transparency & high standard)
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete an online pre-course assignment covering main subjects before participating for the first 6-day workshop.
  • The first 6-day workshop will be held at a super provincial centre (Colombo/ Kandy/ Dambulla/ Southern) covering main subjects
  • Attendees need to complete a full High-Performance Programme together with other assessments during a 12-month period involving a First-Class Team, applying the learnings from the 6-day workshop.
  • Second 4-day workshop at a super provincial centre (Colombo/ Kandy/ Dambulla/ Southern)
  • Successful participants will be awarded SLC level 3 accreditation & will be directed on various High-Performance Coaching Opportunities at the National setup under the guidance of Coach Education Unit.
Accreditation Renewal Process
  • Coaching accreditation to be renewed every three years from the date of issuance
  • Evidence for proving continuous coaching delivery during last three years (Service letters)
  • Evidence of Coaching at National, High-Performance or First-Class Coaching Setup during last three years.

Payment of Rs. 3,000/- together with completed renewal form
